Torah Kachur

The recent unrest throughout the Middle East has spiralled out of control into civil war and has made leaders around the world deny freedom of speech to their citizens.  It might be about time to rebel against megalomaniacs like Gaddafi or Ahmadinejad because after all, they're bat-shit crazy.

Muammar Gaddafi Narcisstic Personality Disorder Torah kachur Science in Seconds

Gaddafi represents the worst in global politics - massively corrupt, funny hats and completely narcissistic.  I'm not a psychiatrist, but I believe my 3 psych courses in University have qualified me to diagnose Gaddafi as having Narcissistic Personality Disorder.  Just look at the facts, people with NPD often:

1)  Are unable to deal with setbacks

- When discussing expatriat dissidents to his rule "It is the Libyan people's responsibility to liquidate such scums who are distorting Libya's image abroad"

- In 1984, Libyan diplomats were ordered to commit violence against demonstrators in London after two political dissidents were executed in Tripoli

2) Need constant attention and affirmation

- In his address to the UN General Assembly in 2009, Gaddafi spoke for a whopping one hour and 36 minutes.  If you are desperate to sleep, the complete speech is transcribed here

- In Gaddafi's Libya, membership in independent labour unions is punishable by death

- Schools are required to teach from his "Green Book", in essence, the manifesto of Col Gaddafi

3)  Exaggerate achievements or talents

- Nothing is more indicative of Gaddafi's psychosis as this symptom.  After news agencies around the world have reported fighting between rebel groups and Libyan forces in and around Tripoli and continued anger towards Gaddafi's rule throughout the country, he responds with "All my people love me".  Uh-huh, okay, sure.... right back at you Muammar.

4)  Often feign humility or modesty

- How about this hum-zinger of a quote:  "There must be a world revolution which puts an end to all materialistic conditions hindering woman from performing her natural role in life and driving her to carry out man's duties in order to be equal in rights."

- Forgive me - this symptom was a tough one to fulfill

Does Gaddafi suffer from NPD?  He might, or he might not.  Charlie Sheen definitely does, but that's another story.  Gaddafi's rule might soon come to an end and along with it an end to hysterically out of touch quotes and elaborate costumes.  But I doubt the world will miss his ruthless dictatorial policies or violations of basic human rights of his people.

Note:  I'm not in fact a psychiatrist or psychologist and I only took 2 psych classes in University.  I have not met Col Muammar Gaddafi and this blog is merely in response to his public persona.  If you can't laugh at yourself, you can't laugh at anyone so lighten up!
